The Drake Passage is an 800km stretch of water named after the 16th century seafarer Sir Francis Drake. Although it’s notorious for being rough that isn’t always the case. As you head further south on your Antarctica tour make time to stand on deck to look out for sea birds such as Albatross, and whales. There are lectures throughout the day on a range of subjects including wildlife, geology and history.
To set foot on the Antarctic continent is an experience few people are lucky enough to have. Nothing can prepare you for the scale of the scenery and richness of the wildlife.
During the next 4 days you will explore the Great White Continent in the company of expert guides. MS Expedition will head south stopping at the South Shetland islands, navigating the Bransfield Strait and then to the Antarctic Peninsula. Most days there will be 2 shore landings to encounter Chinstrap, Adelie and Gentoo penguin colonies, orca, humpback and minke whales. When onboard you can attend lectures to learn about the fascinating history of Antarctica. For the bravest of adventurers there’s the option of the famous Polar Plunge!
The exact itinerary of your Antarctica tour will depend on current weather and ice conditions. The expert crew and Expedition leader will update you as the journey unfolds.
As the ship heads north again there’s time to reflect on your experiences with fellow passengers. Keep a look out for whales and sea birds as you head back through these rich, cold waters.
A small boat delivering big adventures. MS Expedition feels like a home from home in the remote southern waters of the globe.
Note: MS Expedition is staffed with a fantastic team made up of historians, marine biologists and naturalists. This means there’s always someone on hand to answer your questions and give you in-depth insights into the wonders of Antarctica.
Most of us think of ice, penguins and whales when it comes to Antarctica and our Classic Antarctica tour definitely ticks those boxes but delivers a whole lot more as well. It makes for a trip of just over 2 weeks with travel so ideal if you haven’t got a lot of time but want to feel you’ve seen the real Antarctica.
