Itinerary - Classic Antarctica Tour

Day 1. Fly to Ushuaia

Arrive in Ushuaia anytime today, ready to start your Antarctica tour. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 2. Drake Passage

Free morning to explore the most southerly city in the world. Embarkation is in the afternoon ready for an evening sail through the Beagle channel.

Note: this is expedition travel and as such there has to be some flexibility built into the itinerary to adapt to local weather and sea conditions. Your Expedition leader will give specific journey details as you go along.

Day 3. Drake Passage to South Shetland Islands (days 3-4)

The Drake Passage is an 800km stretch of water named after the 16th century seafarer Sir Francis Drake. Although it’s notorious for being rough that isn’t always the case. As you head further south on your Antarctica tour make time to stand on deck to look out for sea birds such as Albatross, and whales. There are lectures throughout the day on a range of subjects including wildlife, geology and history.

Day 4. Drake Passage to South Shetland Islands

Continuing the journey south.

Day 5. South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula (Days 5-8)

To set foot on the Antarctic continent is an experience few people are lucky enough to have. Nothing can prepare you for the scale of the scenery and richness of the wildlife.

During the next 4 days you will explore the Great White Continent in the company of expert guides. MS Expedition will head south stopping at the South Shetland islands, navigating the Bransfield Strait and then to the Antarctic Peninsula. Most days there will be 2 shore landings to encounter Chinstrap, Adelie and Gentoo penguin colonies, orca, humpback and minke whales. When onboard you can attend lectures to learn about the fascinating history of Antarctica. For the bravest of adventurers there’s the option of the famous Polar Plunge!

The exact itinerary of your Antarctica tour will depend on current weather and ice conditions. The expert crew and Expedition leader will update you as the journey unfolds.

Day 6. South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula

Exploring the Antarctic Peninsula

Day 7. South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula

Exploring the Antarctic Peninsula

Day 8. South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula

Day 9. Drake Passage to Ushuaia

As the ship heads north again there’s time to reflect on your experiences with fellow passengers. Keep a look out for whales and sea birds as you head back through these rich, cold waters.

Day 10. Drake Passage to Ushuaia

Continuing the journey to Ushuaia.

Day 11. Disembark Ushuaia

Disembark in Ushuaia this morning. Transfer to the airport for your flight home, or onward travel in Argentina. Although your Antarctica tour ends here there is a lot more to explore in Argentina if you have the time.  Ask us for ideas and your tailor-made itinerary.
