A free morning to allow you to acclimatise to Bolivia’s highest city. This afternoon your local guide will take you on a walking tour to include Plaza Murillo and the witch’s market. You will experience the different faces of Bolivia; indigenous, colonial and modern. You also have time for a ride on the recently opened cable car which offers breathtaking views of the city and surrounding white peaked mountain range.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Sucre. Your local guide will introduce this pretty, colonial city with a walking tour to La Recoleta and typical city streets. Make time to sit in the leafy plaza and watch the world go by.
A scenic drive today to the colonial mining town of Potosi, a UNESCO site. According to legend Cerro Rico mountain that overlooks the city has produced enough silver to build a bridge from Potosi to Madrid.
The Santa Teresa museum and la Casa de la Moneda (Royal Mint) are a must this morning. Your guide will also take you to visit the famous Cerro Rico mine that is still in use today. Learn about the lives of today’s miners and the importance of silver during colonial times.
Today your journey continues towards the altiplano to the edge of the great salt flats, the largest salt lake on earth. Tonight you stay in a hotel made entirely of salt.
Today you embark on an exploration of the salt lake in a deluxe airstream camper with your own private chef and guide. A unique experience. Visit “fish island” that appears to float on the salt with its enormous cacti and unique ecosystem. Watch the sunset while enjoying a cocktail. Overnight in airstream camper.
A visit to the small village of Tahua at the base of Thunupa volcano on the edge of the salt lake. A short hike takes you to a cave where mummies have recently been discovered. Overnight in airstream camper.
Today you fly back to La Paz. Time to pick up some alpaca knitwear and perhaps enjoy dinner in Gustu, voted as one of Latin America’s top 50 restaurants in 2015.
