Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls to Rio

Day 1. Fly to Lima

Fly to Lima. When you arrive you will be met by our representative and driven to your hotel

Day 2. Fly to Cusco

This morning you will fly to Cusco in the heart of the Andes mountains. This afternoon you are free to rest and acclimatise. Cusco is at 3400m above sea level and it is best not to rush around too much on your first day. If you do feel like exploring there are museums, restaurants and cafes close to your hotel.

Day 3. Cusco City Tour

This morning you join a local guide to visit the ceremonial site of Tambomachay with its intricate water fountains, Qenko with its fascinating carved rocks and Sacsuayhuaman, perhaps most impressive Inca site of the area. Back in the city you continue to the Cathedral and famous sun temple of Koricancha. This afternoon is free for you to explore more of Cusco at your own pace.

 

 

Day 4. Sacred Valley of the Incas

Explore the picturesque market town of Pisac with its impressive Inca ruins and famous market with a local guide. Wander the Inca alleyways of Ollantaytambo before taking the train to Aguas Calientes town, at the base of Machu Picchu

Day 5. Machu Picchu

You can choose to make an early start to experience Machu Picchu before the day-tripper crowds arrive from Cusco. The jewel in the crown of Inca architecture, Machu Picchu is a spectacular testimony to the Inca culture. You will have plenty of free time to explore before returning to Cusco. Day 6. Fly to Iguazu Falls

This morning we take you the airport for your flight to Iguazu falls via Lima. When you arrive in Iguazu you will be met and driven to your hotel.

 

 

Day 7. Argentina side of Iguazu Falls

A full day with a guide to explore the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls, get right up close to the falls and surrounding jungle, thanks to specially constructed walkways More on Iguazu Falls We include the ‘Gran Aventura’ boat ride up to the thunderous “Devil’s Throat”.

 

 

Day 8. Brazil side of Iguazu Falls, Fly to Rio de Janeiro

Your tour of the Brazilian side of the falls allows you to see Iguazu in a stunning panorama. Breathtaking! In the afternoon you will fly to Rio where you will be picked up and taken to your hotel.

 

 

Day 9. Christ the Redeemer

This morning your private guide takes you to one of South America’s most iconic sights; Christ the Redeemer. Recently voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, the art deco statue is beautiful close up. From this vantage point you get magnificent views of this most photogenic city.

Day 10. Sugar Loaf Mountain

Free morning to soak up the atmosphere of Ipanema or Copacabana beaches. In the afternoon your guide and driver will take you to Sugar Loaf Mountain. A 2 stage cable car takes you to the top, for more stunning yet different views of Rio and its coastline at sunset.

Day 11. Fly home

We will pick you up and take you to the airport for your flight home. An unforgettable trip!

Expert Lowdown - Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls to Rio

This itinerary works well in reverse, starting in Rio and ending in Lima.

Take an extra day or 2 in Peru to explore deeper in the Sacred Valley or just relax. There are many superb hotel options here.

It’s a great idea to add some time in Paraty which is between Rio and Sao Paolo. It is a pleasant colonial town on the ‘Costa Verde” with interesting shops and pretty beaches to explore.

Check with your Doctor or travel clinic about immunisations required for this trip, or any precautions that you might need to take.

Some nationalities are required to obtain a visa before traveling to Brazil. Please check with your consulate.

Flights within South America are included in all of our trips, unless you tell us you prefer to book your own.

International flights are not included and the price and schedule will vary depending on your place of origin and dates. For this trip you can arrive and depart from Lima, Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo.

There is a direct flight between Lima and Iguazu falls which does not run daily. We will take this into account when we plan your trip.
