Day 1. Lima to Trujilo
Travel from Lima to the colonial city of Trujilo. From there, discover the colorful friezes in the Moche pyramids of Huaca de la Luna and Sol. Next, head to the Pacific shore to wander the passageways of the pre-Inca city of Chan Chan; the largest adobe city ever built. Enjoy some of the finest Peruvian seafood in the seaside resort of Huanchaco and watch fishermen head out on their distinctive reed boats. Finish the day by visiting some of the beautifully preserved colonial mansions of the city. Spend the night in your luxury hotel right on the grand main plaza of Trujilo.
Day 2. Trujilo to Chaparri
Continue your discovery of the Moche culture at the temple of El Brujo. This site featured in National Geographic magazine after the sensational discovery a female mummy believed to be a tattooed priestess, or shaman, buried with her own finery and ceremonial goods, as the Pharaohs of Egypt were. After lunch, enjoy a display of traditional Paso horses before continuing on to the peaceful oasis of Chaparri. If the Paddington Bear of Peru is the Spectacled Bear, then this is the best place to see them in their natural habitat. Enjoy the absolute peace of this refuge for many varieties of wildlife and fall asleep listening to the sound of the birds and nothing else.
Day 3. Chaparri to Chiclayo
Share the enthusiasm and love of nature of the guides who have grown up on this wonderful and rarely visited reserve. Spend the morning walking the trails and spotting wild birds such as the White-winged Guan, Military Macaw and Andean Condor.
After lunch, head out to the fascinating site of Sipan; scene of some audacious grave robbing and the incredibly rich tombs of the Lord of Sipan; one of the most sensational finds in recent archaeology. Continue on to Chiclayo to overnight in this bustling tropical city.
Day 4. Lord of Sipan Museum
For some amazing views, we head to Túcume and enjoy the atmosphere of a pleasant north-coast oasis, home to 26 pre-Columbian adobe buildings. Continue to Lambayeque for a sensational visit to the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum. This modern museum was purpose built to house the priceless objects unearthed at Sipan. From Chiclayo you will head to the airport for your onward flight.
