We take slightly longer over the trek and spend a night in Aguas Calientes at the end. This means you have plenty of time the next morning to enjoy your visit to Machu Picchu.

Day 1. Lima

Arrive into the capital city of Lima, private transport to your hotel.

Day 2. Cusco

Fly to Cusco and transfer to your hotel. We suggest you take it easy today to get used to the high altitude. If you do feel like a stroll there are shops, restaurants and museums within a short walk of your hotel.

Day 3. Cusco City Tour

Half day tour of Cusco and the outlying Inca sites with the option of a gentle hike in the countryside. In the evening you will have a full Inca Trail briefing.

Day 4. Sacred Valley Tour

Full day tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas including Pisac Market and Ollantaytambo before returning to Cusco to spend the night.

Day 5. Begin Inca Trail

Transfer to the trailhead and begin hiking. Today's trek is mainly at a gentle gradient alongside the rushing Urubamba river. Tonight we camp alongside the impressive ruins of Llactapata.

Day 6. Trek to Llulluchapampa

Begin the ascent towards the infamous Dead Woman's pass passing through peaceful cloud forest with superb views across to the snow capped Wakay Wilka or Veronica Mountain. Camp at Llulluchapampa and enjoy stunning views into the valley below.

Day 7. Trek to Puyupatamarca

The most challenging day of the Inca Trail begins with a steady trek up to Dead Woman's Pass or Warmiwanusca (4200 meters above sea level). Descending again you can enjoy a rest before carrying on to the Runcuracay pass that leads into dense cloud forest. In the afternoon, enjoy a gently undulating trail through a huge array of vegetation and wildlife before arriving at your campsite, Puyupatamarca.

Day 8. Trek to Machu Picchu

From your vantage point high above the clouds, enjoy a spectactular sunrise over Salcantay mountain. Descend to the Inca site of Winay Wayna with opportunities to explore the site. We continue on around the mountain with stunning views of the Urubamba Valley to reach the Sun Gate and your first view of Machu Picchu. You will walk down through the site then take a bus to your hotel and enjoy a well earned shower!

Day 9. Machu Picchu Tour

Take the bus back up to Machu Picchu for your tour of the site with our expert guide. You have plenty of free time to explore before returning to Cusco.

Day 10. Lima

Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima.
