The sheer opulence and magnificent views of this iconic luxury hotel originally put Copacabana on the world map! Now part of the prestigious Belmond group, the hotel is still as distinguished as when it opened in 1923, and its guest list is just as glamorous. Over half of the 245 rooms are in the classic main building, including the penthouse floor with butler service and private pool for extra exclusivity. The centrepiece is a superb over-sized pool with a team of attendants to cater for every conceivable need, while there is also beach service to pamper guests on the golden sands in front of the hotel. The hotel’s Cipriani restaurant is one of the finest in the city.
This really was the holiday of a lifetime and thanks to expedition leader Hannah and her fantastic team was it was a magical experience. The scenery and wildlife were breathtaking and the history of polar exportation, and my hero Sir Ernest Shackleton in particular was vividly, brought to life. To be able to follow his journey and pay my respects to him at his graveside in South Georgia was very emotional and something I will never forget.
