Holiday like Prince Harry in Brazil

Date: March 09,2012 By: Karen Categories: News

Inspired by Prince Harry´s trip to Brazil, here are our suggestions for a fun-packed luxury break in Rio and Sao Paolo.

Sao Paolo

The first stop is Brazil’s economical and cultural capital of Sao Paolo.

When visiting the artistic and cultural capital of Brazil, where better to stay than the aptly named Unique Hotel. This hotel is a work of art in itself from the rooftop bar and pool , to the huge round windows in the rooms. The great and good of Sao Paolo head to the rooftop for fantastic views of the city and nearby Ibirapuera Park.

Sao Paolo has some fabulous museums and cultural centers so spend the next day on a private tour of the the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) ; Latin America’s most comprehensive collection of Western art. Designed by architect Lina Bo Bardi, the museum would surely be of interest to Prince Charles – considered by some to be a classic of modernism, and by others a monstrosity!

Sao Paolo’s other claim to fame is shopping and Daslu is surely Brazil´s ultimate luxury shopping experience. Originally created as an intimate shopping experience in a socialite´s home, the emphasis is still on personalized service. Shoppers are greeted by a personal assistant, or Dasluzete who chooses items based on the customers preferences, and even on what they already have in their wardrobes at home. All the while, apron clad assistants serve drinks and ferry clothes to and fro in this Versailles-inspired emporium of couture.

In the evening, visitors to Sao Paolo can take in a concert at the fabulous Sala Sao Paolo Concert Hall. When this beautiful hall was rebuilt in 1999, a former main hall of the train station was chosen for its excellent acoustics. Priority was given to making the most wonderful listening experience, with an adjustable ceiling and raised platform for performers, and now the Sala is known as one of the best concert halls in the world.

For dining in Sao Paolo you can´t go wrong with D.O.M. Restaurant. Here, chef Alex Atala scours the Amazon to pepper his dishes with indigenous ingredients, from the staple manioc tuber and its tupuci juice to Amazonian herbs and the huge white-fleshed pirarucu fish.

Rio de Janeiro

Rio is a gorgeous city with white sandy beaches and lush forest stretching up the hills behind. You need a room with a view then so we suggest the Fasano Hotel on Ipanema Beach. Beachfront views from your balcony and the coolest rooftop pool in Rio. If you just step outside to find out whats happening on Ipanema Beach, a private cabana is there with drinks on demand.

For a great overview of Rio, how about a short helicopter trip. Fly over downtown Rio de Janeiro, the Sambadrome where Carnival parade takes place every year and Maracanã soccer stadium. Circle the statue of Christ the Redeemer, Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches.

After that you might want to see things a bit close so we suggest an off-road jeep tour through Floresta da Tijuca, Rios huge city center forest, and then continue up for the iconic views of the city from the White Christ.

In the evening, you will want to taste some of Rio’s famous nightlife so we suggest a trip to the bohemian Lapa neighbourhood. Amongst the cobblestone streets, revelers of all ages are reviving the samba in clubs like the gorgeously historicRio Scenarium. Enjoy a show and then dance the night away with the locals.

We know that for Prince Harry it´s not all about luxury and so we devote today to getting to know the people of Rio and having fun. Start the day with a guided tour to one of the city’s Favelas to find out more about this colorful part of the city.

In the afternoon , enjoy another aerial view of Rio. This time on a hand gliding trip from Pedra Bonita to the beaches below. Speaking of which, how about getting involved with the fun on Ipanema beach with a lesson in beach volleyball and Footvolley.

For a rest day before heading home, you can´t do much better than an overnight stay in or aroundParaty. Charming, colonial Paraty is surrounded by quiet bays and lush forest.

This was the idyllic setting for the honeymoon in the movie: Twilight Breaking Dawn.

Relax at one of the private villas of Pichinguaba Hotel. Located in a secluded seafront location in Serra do Mar Nature Reserve, Pichinguaga has 3 km of private beach and natural, forested surroundings.

Take advantage of the hotels own 40 foot schooner to explore the surrounding islands.

More about Paraty

If all that relaxation seems too much, Paraty is surrounded by forested hills ready for exploration by jeep or on horseback.

We are sure Prince Harry will have a fabulous trip to Brazil, and so can you.
