The high life in Rio de Janeiro

Date: September 10,2014 By: Laura Ross Categories: News

Our journey started in Rio de Janeiro – it is an amazing city and spending time here is exhilarating, fun and energising. Cariocas (Brazilians who come from Rio) work hard and play hard and before long, over a few drinks, we’d made lots of friends. Everyone drinks caipirinhas – an exotic blend of neat Cachaca (alcohol derived from sugar cane), fresh lime, sugar and crushed ice. The party atmosphere is addictive with its samba beat – it’s hard to drag yourself away.

It’s not just the people that make Rio so special – its scenery is world-famous for a reason… I felt genuinely moved seeing theCorcovado, Christ the Reedemer. He has the most gentle face full of love as he stands there watching over Rio below. You can travel up to it easily by train and once there you get panoramic views of Copacabana, Ipanema beaches and the City. The other main attraction, the Sugarloaf is a hair raising cable car journey above the city where you travel over the favelas, the slums up to the top where again the views are spectacular. This is a magical place that I will never forget…
